CREATIONTHE HERMÈS DETAILWith its ridged grain, reddish-brown hue and burnt-wood scent, Volynka leather tells the story of vegetable tanning. Incredibly resistant, it perpetuates centuries-old techniques, such as oak-bark shredding or soaking in birch-bark baths. This long-forgotten know-how was revived by Hermès’ talented artisans in 2017 when a number of hides was discovered in the hold of a shipwrecked vessel.
